OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
To provide a professional association that will allow its membership to contribute to the enhancement of the services delivered in the correctional field.
To promote corrections policy at the country, regional and international levels that are consistent with the Association’s purposes, objectives and constitution.
To influence the development of laws and administrative procedures to safeguard the rights of corrections workers, victims and offenders in the adult and juvenile correctional system.
To publish and distribute journals and other informative materials relating to crime prevention, and corrections, also to encourage and stimulate research of these matters.
To conduct or sponsor correctional conferences, workshops, seminars and any such forum that would contribute to the professional development of the members.
To influence the passage of legislation that impinges on the criminal justice process for adult and juvenile offenders.
To develop a code of ethics that is appropriate for use in the correctional field and which will in turn give professional recognition to its personnel.
To assist in the development of standards and validated correctional training programmes that will prepare prospective personnel for entry to the correctional profession and also provide retraining and updating to those already in the field.
To propose and develop rehabilitative and post release programmes that will contribute to a reduction in recidivism. |
